Welcome to Powell & Focus Guild Opticians, a family owned and operated business of 43 years. Our long time owner and mentor of Powell Opticians, Inc., Harry Dant passed away after a brief battle with cancer in November of 2002. Harry’s passing has left a large void in the optical profession, but we will continue to be a family owned business per Harry’s wishes. We will continue to provide you with the same quality service and pride in workmanship that has been a longtime trademark of Powell Opticians, Inc.

You can find us in the Bradlee Medical Building located behind the Bradlee Shopping Center in Alexandria. We are about five minutes west of Old Town where King Street, Quaker Lane, and Braddock Road intersect.

Unlike Chain stores, we only employ licensed opticians. This is important because you need the knowledge and expertise of a licensed optician to ensure that your optical needs are being fulfilled. Many ophthalmologists send their difficult prescriptions to us to be filled, because they know the time and care we put in to a new pair of glasses.

We offer much more than your average mall chain store. Glasses are handcrafted on the premises. In our lab there are enough machines to make a small factory. Patients are not just an order number or a sales amount. Our patient files are quite extensive. Unlike most chains that clear out files after three or four years, we keep all of our patient’s prescriptions. We have some that date back forty years. Sometimes having a complete eye history on hand can be very important.

We also have a contact lens specialist, Maria Garcia-Frias. Maria is a licensed optician with thirty years of experience, but she is known by many local opthamologists as ‘the’ specialist to send their difficult or problem contact lens patients to. She is capable of fitting the most complex prescriptions. She has also worked with the American Board of Opticianry to create the Advanced Optician Certification exam.

We have recently acquired the services of Hameed U. Peracha, a Board Certified Opthamologist, Physician, and Surgeon. Dr. Peracha has extensive credentials and has won numerous prestigious awards. He is an accomplished surgeon and can fulfill all your medical needs. If you are in need of an eye examination, we hope that you will think of us and call for an appointment.

We offer a large line of magnifiers from Donegan, Bausch & Lomb, and Eschenbach. If we don’t have it in stock, we can get it for you.

We specialize in “invisible” or rimless frames made by Silhouette, Marchon Air Locks, Flexon, and Calvin Klein.

The first pair of eyeglasses is very important. We have a large selection of children’s eyeglasses. We strive to make the first pair an easy, enjoyable process. This is very important to help the child feel comfortable wearing his or her new eyewear.

We offer a full line of accessories. We have cleaners of various kinds, cleaning clothes, clip-on sunglasses, fit-over sunglasses, eyeglass chains, reading glasses, and contact lens solutions.
